Heather Y. Allen served as State Commander of the Department of Montana Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States from June 21, 2025, to June 20, 2026.
Heather was born and raised in California as the daughter of a military family. Following graduation and a brief period living in Wisconsin, she followed in her father's footsteps by enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1996. She served for nine and a half years as a signals intelligence analyst, with assignments at Kelly Air Force Base, Texas; Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea; and Vogelweh Air Base, Germany. Her military service also included a temporary duty assignment with NATO in Vicenza, Italy, supporting the Kosovo Campaign. She earned her VFW eligibility through her military service, receiving the Kosovo Campaign Medal and Korea Defense Service Medal.
Heather joined VFW Post 3596 in Plains, Montana, as a Life member in March 2018. She was elected Post Quartermaster in 2019, a position she continues to hold. Her leadership contributed to Post 3596 earning its first All-American distinction since receiving its charter in 1937, achieving the honor in both the 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 membership years. Heather also earned All-State Quartermaster recognition during both years.
At the national level, Heather was appointed National Aide-de-Camp in 2019 and served on the General Resolutions Committee in 2020 and 2022 and the Finance and Internal Organization Committee in 2021. At the Department level, she served on the State Budget Committee in 2022. Her continued dedication to the organization culminated in her election as State Commander of the Department of Montana for the 2025–2026 membership year.
Beyond her VFW leadership, Heather serves as Vice President of Joint Operation Mariposa, a veterans outreach organization. She previously served as Vice President of the Plains Woman's Club from 2020 to 2022.
Heather and her husband, Eric, who is also a VFW Life member, were married in 2006 and reside in Plains, Montana.
