Randy L. Kreps was re-elected Commander of District 5, Department of Montana, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, on April 26, 2026, at the District 5 Spring Meeting held in Sidney, Montana.

Randy was born in Hagerstown, Maryland. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in July 1979, beginning a 20-year military career that culminated with his retirement in August 1999. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Randy returned to Montana, where he made his home.

During his Air Force career, Randy served assignments in California, Hawaii, South Dakota, Iceland, Montana, and North Dakota. He spent his first four years in supply as a Fuel Specialist. After being promoted to Staff Sergeant (E-5), he cross-trained as a Strategic Airlift and Bombardment Maintenance Specialist, commonly known as an aircraft crew chief, and spent the remainder of his career in aircraft maintenance. Randy particularly enjoyed working on the EC/KC-135 and Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft.

His duties took him on numerous deployments around the world, including RAF Mildenhall in the United Kingdom, Australia, and Diego Garcia. He later deployed to Saudi Arabia and Oman in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, service through which he earned his eligibility for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

During his Air Force career, Randy received numerous military awards and decorations, including the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device and additional oak leaf clusters, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three service stars, and the Kuwait Liberation Medals issued by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, among other decorations.

Randy currently works for U.S. Customs and Border Protection as a supervisor at the Port of Raymond, Montana. In addition to serving as District 5 Commander, he is a Life Member and Commander of VFW Post 4018 in Plentywood. He also serves as Vice Commander of American Legion Post 58 in Plentywood.

Randy and his wife, Julie, have been married for 29 years and have one daughter, Mollie. In his free time, Randy enjoys the outdoors, particularly hiking in and around Glacier National Park, and remains active in his community whenever his work schedule permits.
