Timmothy Garrison
District 1 Commander - Marines

Timmothy Garrison was elected District 1 Commander of the Department of Montana, of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., on April 11, 2026 at the District 1 Meeting held in Big Fork, Montana.  

Timmothy is a fifth generation Montanan, with roots going back to 1904 in the Kootenai River Valley. He graduated high school in Troy, MT and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1992, deploying to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Japan, Thailand, Korea, and Iraq. 

In 1999, while assigned as Drill Instructor at Parris Island SC, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and transferred to the University of Idaho, Navy ROTC. In 2002 he received his Bachelor of Science and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. He retired as a Major in October 2020 after 28 years of Marine Corps service.
 
Following retirement, he earned his teaching credential and worked as a substitute teacher during the COVID pandemic. In 2022, he returned home to Montana to live near his children and grandchildren. He volunteered as Missoula Northside/Westside neighborhood committee chair in 2022-2023. He has volunteered with youth activities to include Little League Executive Committee, 8 years with GSUSA, and 11 years with Boy Scouts of America. He charters two Scouting Units with VFW Post 5514 in Troy MT. He had served three years on the leadership team for the Missoula Veteran Support Network. He is married to his wife of 24 years, LCDR Ann Grimshaw, USN NC (Retired).
